In Demand Radio Proudly Partners with Alder Hey Children’s Charity to Launch First MediCinema in a UK Paediatric Hospital
We are thrilled to announce that In Demand Radio is proudly partnering with Alder Hey Children’s Charity to help bring a unique and transformative experience to young patients at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Set to open in 2024, the new MediCinema will be the only one of its kind in a paediatric hospital in the UK and the first in the North West.
Transforming Hospital Stays with Movie Magic
The colourful and specially designed cinema will be located on the hospital mezzanine, transforming the existing lecture theatre into a vibrant space where children and young people can escape into the magical world of movies. Funded exclusively by Alder Hey Children’s Charity and MediCinema, this in-hospital cinema will provide the latest movies free of charge, creating a positive and uplifting environment for patients and their families.
Designed for Comfort and Accessibility
The MediCinema will be equipped to accommodate beds, wheelchairs, and necessary medical equipment, ensuring that all patients, regardless of their condition, can enjoy the latest blockbusters. Specialist-trained volunteers, alongside Alder Hey nurses who will have the option to work in the MediCinema outside of their usual rota, will accompany patients to screenings. This support ensures that children can receive any necessary care while immersing themselves in the movie experience.
A Positive Impact on Health and Wellbeing
MediCinema has been running cinema programs in hospitals for 24 years, and there is clear evidence of the positive impact these experiences have on the emotional and mental health of patients. Bringing this unique experience to Alder Hey will give children and young people who might not normally have the opportunity a chance to enjoy the magic of cinema, offering a much-needed distraction and a sense of normalcy during their hospital stay.
How You Can Help
To maintain and operate this wonderful facility, it will cost £98,000 annually. Alder Hey Children’s Charity has launched an appeal to support the running costs of the cinema, and we are calling on our kind supporters to donate whatever they can afford. Your contributions will help keep this incredible resource available for the children and young people at Alder Hey.
